Q: We want to make a protein claim on our new snack mix, which is a blend of dried fruits, soynuts, pretzels, and peanuts. The Nutrition Facts label states 7g of protein per serving. Is a “good source of protein” claim allowed?

L.R., Food Manufacturer, North Carolina

A: Yes, if your snack mix is intended for consumers ages 4 and older and provides at least 10% Daily Value (% DV) of protein per Reference Amount Customarily Consumed (RACC), you may use claims like “good source of protein” or “contains protein.”
